I'm Not Tired

Charlotte had fallen asleep in the van on our way home from strawberry picking. When we went to get her out of the van she woke up. I asked her if she needed to go to her room for a nap and she responed, "I'm not tired." Where have I heard that before? So I told her to go inside and take her shoes off. Well, she did get her shoes off. She slept on the stair for about 45 minutes to an hour.

Strawberry Picking

Bella took her job picking strawberries very serious.Charlotte liked to show off the pretty red strawberries that she picked.

Xander pretty much stood there and looked at us like we were crazy. Maybe next year he will be more into it.

The end result

Going to the freezer to be made into yummy smoothies at a later time.

Backyard Fun

Our neighbors bought a huge blow up water slide. The kids had so much fun.

At first she wouldn't have anything to do with the slide. Then the idea of going down in a controlled manner appealed to her. This is as wild at she got, but she did have fun.

First off this wasn't just a picture for show. Dan really had to propel Xander up to the top each time because he couldn't climb up the wall. He loved every minute of this.

Doesn't seem like he liked it.
Close up, still doesn't look liked it.

Really doesn't look like he had fun, but he kept going down over and over.

Bella's Birthday Treats

I brought in treats to celebrate Bella's birthday at school although it is 3 weeks away. Making these have been a comedy of errors. I thought I had everything: 2 cake mixes one chocolate, one yellow (Bob and Larry were completely from scratch), and strawberry and chocolate chocolate frosting. Yesterday when I when to make the first batch (yellow cupcakes) I looked and realized that I didn't have any liners. No problem. I can use non-stick spray. I am almost out of that too. I eeked out enough to make what I needed for the yellow ones but not enough for the chocolate batch. I thought that I had everything, but when I went to assemble them I realized that I hadn't bought the ice cream cones. Why do you need ice cream cones when you have cupcakes? I am putting the cupcakes in the cones and frosting them to look like soft serve ice cream cones. Don't give me too much credit, I found it in cookbook devoted to cupcakes. So today I make a run to the store to pick up the non-stick spray, the liners, and the cones. When I got home and opened the box of cones, they were the mini ones. Didn't know they made those. Any way, so it was a good thing that the original recipe needed a regular cupcake and a mini one. So I put the mini yellow cupcakes in the mini cones and frosted them with the strawberry icing. Once a few of them were done then I had the problem of how to keep them upright. I scoured the house trying different ideas. Then my epiphany. I could use the top of a box and cut holes in it that fit the cones. My first attempt. Not so pretty. Then my second epiphany. I could use one of my scrapbooking tools to cut the perfect size holes. Why didn't I think of that in the first place? Maybe because I haven't scrapbooked since I can't even tell you when. Sure enough it worked.

The saga continued. I reached Bella's school during the appropiate time 2:15pm (between 2-3pm they do any birthday celebrations). As I am pulling up to the school I see kids outside in groups sitting in the grass, mulitple fire trucks, and amblulances. That is definately not something that you want to see at your child's school. I pulled into the parking lot and I asked someone else what happened. She said that the fire alarm went off. When I arrived the fire marshall had just started letting parents/volunteers back in the building. The kids had been in the gym for a few minutes while the fire fighters told the kids what a great job they did at leaving the building in an orderly fashion. There was no fire. Some steam from an air conditioner some how set it off. As I waited in the parking lot all I could think about is how devestated Bella would be if she didn't get her birthday treats. On Tuesday this week was field day and I had signed up to help. However I had to cancel because my babysitter was sick and so were Charlotte and Xander. I finally got to Bella's classroom around 2:30pm and all the kid's eyes lit up when I walked in with treats. The kids loved the treats and so did Bella.

I'm Not Tired

I brought out the baby pool from last year because it has been so hot here. Charlotte and Xander played all morning in the freezing water, but didn't seem to mind due to the heat. After I put Xander down for a nap, Charlotte seemed a little whiny so I asked her if she need to take a nap. Her instant response was, "I'm not tired!" Of course not. My task this afternoon was to frost the goodies for Bella's Birthday Treats I would bring in on Friday. As I frosted the treats, I didn't hear Charlotte. Not unusual, she is known to play quietly by herself. When I went looking for her this is what I saw.

2 Year Check-Up

I want to start off by saying that I forgot the camera. I know. Right? How could I do such a thing. I have been blogging for almost 2 years and that is a rookie mistake not to have my camera attached to me. So there won't be any cute picture of Xander on the scale as I have previously posted on his check-up day. The worst part is that he stood on the big kid scale for the first time and I didn't get a picture. Now I have to wait a whole year for his next check-up since he has graduated from the every couple of months schedule to the yearly one. I have to tell you that I am not too broken up about that. If we don't see the doctor for another year, I will be over joyed. These last few months it wasn't just me not wanting to take a sick child to yet another doctor's visit. The doctor couldn't believe that we were back again and again and again. They were all ligitament visits.

For all of you anxiously awaiting his statistics here they are: Height 90% at 36 inches (Charlotte was 36" at 3) and Weight between 25-40% at 26 lbs. He is tall and skinny. There is nothing wrong with that. Although it still amazes me that he has grown at all. His food choices are few and his intake small. I thought boys were supposed to eat?

Simple Pleasure

When you think of summer what is the simplest pleasure? Blowing bubbles. It was 80 degrees and breezy, perfect for blowing bubbles with a toddler. I like making bubbles too. Xander loved playing in the bubble solution just as much as using the wand. Many drivers passing by in their cars smiled at us as bubbles surrounded their vehicle. Who doesn't like bubbles?

Happy 2nd Birthday

I always knew that boys were different than girls, but that reality came to light when Little Man began crawling, walking, and shortly thereafter running last year around his birthday. A year later, not much as changed except he will repeat any word you say and he is well on his way to being completly potty trained. He is all boy. He is messy, loud, likes to spit and do anything to push his sisters' buttons. Even if that means just touching them or even worse yet just looking at them. He falls down and just gets right back up and says, "OK, OK." He has jumped off and/or fallen off too many thing to name and we have managed to avoid a trip to the E.R. However, I know the day is coming. He loves running around with the big boys (2 neighbors ages 6 & 4). For all the craziness packaged up in an engergetic little boy, he loves his mama. He will cuddle with me while he watches TV, and when he is truly hurt, he wants his mama to make it better. He likes to sit in my lap and be read to at night.

For his birthday lunch Xander wanted soy butter and crackers a regular for him. I had made him a few and turned around to do something else. When I came back to the table to make him some more this is what I found.

Needless to say this jar of soy butter has gone from a family jar to his personal jar. Just in case I might have forgotten this incident, I put his name on the jar with a permanment marker.

Silicone Has Changed My Life

OK, so before you go all I can't believe that she is blogging about this, let me finish my thought. Silicone Bakeware that is. My cousin bought me some individual silicone muffin cups shaped like flowers for my birthday. I have always been skeptical of the silicone movement in baking, for no other reason than the old way (muffin pans) worked just fine. I made some corn muffins in them the other night and I loved them. Right after that I went to my Amazon wish list and registered for multiple baking items made of silicone. If you have not tried them I highly suggest you do. They look good, wash up easy, are earth friendly (no paper to discard) and if you get the individual muffin cups, they stack and store in a fraction of the space. Who couldn't use more kitchen cabinet space.
